Police said they found shell casings and locked down a nearby school as a precaution after shots were fired in a neighborhood in Rock Island, Illinois.
Investigators were sent to check out a report of shots fired in the area of 9th Street and 8th Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
Nearby, Thurgood Marshall Learning Academy at 600 11th Avenue was placed on a precautionary lockdown. Students and staff were required to remain indoors and all entrances were locked.
A spokesperson for the Rock Island-Milan School District said the school was locked down for about a half-hour. No other school district buildings were affected.
Initial reports indicated police said they found shell casings in the area where the shots were reportedly fired.
No injuries were reported.
