Police officers on both sides of the river will increase their enforcement of the move over law on Thursday, October 2, 2014.

Illinois State Police and the Iowa State Patrol held a joint press conference about the enforcement on Monday, October 1, 2014. The officers touched on the incident that happened back in January of 2014 when Illinois Tollway worker Vincent Petrella was killed on Interstate 88.

Petrella was looking at a disabled tractor-trailer when another semi-truck hit his vehicle. Illinois State Police say that Petrella's vehicle had lights activated on the side of the road. That's why police are reminding drivers that they need to move over a lane away from the pulled over emergency vehicle, when possible.

Illinois State Police say they'll be out on I-74, I-280, and I-80 Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Iowa State Patrol will also be out Thursday for the one day enforcement increase, but they are not disclosing where they will be.
