If you used a credit or debit card at Jewel-Osco in Illinois, Iowa or Indiana, your account information could have been captured by malware found in the company’s computer system.

The company which owns Jewel-Osco stores confirmed two separate malware attacks that happened at their stores between June and September 2014.

“(I)f you used your credit or debit card in a potentially affected store between June 22, 2014 and July 17, 2014 or between August 27, 2014 and September 21, 2014, you should monitor your credit and debit card account and promptly contact the bank that issued your payment card if you see suspicious activity,” said a statement from the company.

The second attack involved different malware than the first incident.

“The new malware may have captured account numbers, expiration date, other numerical information and/or the cardholder’s name,” the company said in an online post.

The company had not yet determined whether any payment card data was actually stolen in either incident.

“It is unlikely that you are at risk of identity theft due to this incident. Generally, identity theft requires criminals to have access not only to your name and credit card information, but also your Social Security number. That information is not captured in our payment process and could not have been accessed in this incident,” the company statement said.

They recommended that, if you are contacted by anyone asking for additional personal information by phone, text, mail or email, you should not respond.

The company offered more information updates online for customers who may be affected by the malware. Customers can also call them toll-free at 1-855-865-4449 Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time.
