An Iowa woman says she and her husband had a good reason for leaving their server a much larger-than-expected tip after getting super slow service.

Mackenzie Schultz, of Cedar Rapids, posted a photo online of their receipt after she and Steven Schultz decided to leave a $100 tip for a bill that totaled just over $66.

“People all around us were making fun of the restaurant & how bad the service was,” Schultz posted with the photo.  “But, it was very obvious that the issue was being short staffed, not the server.”

The post went on to say their server was apologetic and “never acted annoyed” as he scrambled to wait on a dozen tables plus the bar.  The couple recalled being in that server’s shoes, and they knew slow service would likely translate into fewer and smaller tips.

So, they left a big tip and a sympathetic note on the receipt, then departed before the waiter returned to their table.

I’m just sharing this as a friendly reminder to think of the entire situation, before you judge,” Schultz’s post said, “And always always always remember where you came from.”
