A Davenport man died when he was allegedly fleeing from police and crashed head-on into a semi on Interstate 80.

A report from the Iowa State Patrol said 26-year-old Scott Trimble, of Davenport, Iowa, was “fleeing from law enforcement” as he was eastbound on I-80 just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014.

The report said Trimble lost control of the 2014 Lincoln four-door car he was driving once when he hit stop sticks deployed by Mitchellville Police. Trimble continued east into Jasper County where he lost control again at mile marker 155, near the Colfax/Mingo exit.

Trimble’s car “vaulted through the median” and collided head-on with a westbound semi, the report said. Trimble was killed in the crash.

The semi driver, a 52-year-old man from Lake in the Hills, Illinois, was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Newton.

It was not clear why police were pursuing Trimble.
