After police confirmed the shooting death of a Davenport man, neighbors said the man was confined to a wheelchair.

Investigators were sent to investigate the report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound at a home in the Five Seasons trailer park  just after 4:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014.  A man they found inside the home was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

Neighbors said they did not hear gunshots but that they awoke to police activity at around 5 a.m.

Lynn Eichmeier lives just around the corner from the home where the shooting occurred. She said she was on her porch drinking coffee when she started to see swarms of police.

"I just thought somebody had robbed some place or something," Eichmeier said. "It wasn't until later this morning that I was told a gentlemen had been shot and killed."

Investigators went door-to-door to gather information from anyone who might have seen or heard activity at the time of the alleged shooting.

One neighbor said they saw cars frequently arriving and departing at the man's home.

A woman, who identified herself as the victim's mother, said he was 18 years old.  She said she was told he was shot in the chest.  She also said he was supposed to be starting a new job the Monday after the shooting happened.

Police initially would only say they did not believe the shooting was self-inflicted. They did not immediately give information about the possible circumstances or a possible suspect in connection with the shooting.

An autopsy was to be scheduled according to a spokesperson for the Davenport Police Department.
