One man is dead and four police officers are now on administrative leave after a standoff ended with a police-involved shooting at a Davenport home.

Davenport Police say officers were called to a home at 2814 Fair Avenue at about 7:15 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014.

Police say the initial report indicated a person was waving guns around and threatening to hurt himself.

The person who called police from inside the home told dispatchers the suspect was alone in a garage and may possibly "want to die by police fire" according to a spokesman for the Davenport Police Department.

Trained police department negotiators say the suspect began drinking during the three hour standoff and became more agitated and irrational.

Police say the man then "aggressively advanced" toward officers with a weapon in his waistband and another in his hand.

Police officers shot him, killing him.

Assistant Police Chief Donald Shaeffer had not indicated if the suspect died at the scene or at the hospital.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting and the suspect who died have not been released.

This was the second police-involved fatal shooting in Davenport in two months.

In August, police shot and killed a knife-wielding man at a home near Ninth and Gaines.  Alvin Jennings, 61, died that night.  The two officers who both fired on Jennings were cleared of any wrongdoing.
