Rob Seiberling usually gets a bird's eye view of the country at work.
"It's really breathtaking," he said.
But on Tuesday, the Dallas-based commercial pilot landed on the Sky Bridge, and he's raving about Davenport's riverfront.
"On a beautiful day when it's in the 70's, just crisp, clear blue skies, it's pretty awesome to be up here," he said.
That sentiment is sparking a USA Today contest. Davenport will battle it out online with 20 other contenders.
You can vote in the contest once per day -- click here. Voting ends at midnight on October 20.
While kids enjoy the playground on a picture-perfect day, it seems like an easy decision.
"Making it nice for people to come down here and spend time," said Moline mom Kristen Ontiveros. "Making it a real family environment. It's just been wonderful. Kudos to Davenport for doing this."
Davenport's riverfront features a variety of attractions. From rolling by to riding high on the Ferris wheel, there's something for everybody. There's summer entertainment and winter's majestic eagles. It's four seasons of fun.
The contest should be a great way to publicize Davenport. Online voting will draw attention to this gem along the Mississippi River.
"Non-traditional methods of marketing seem to get more attention and have more fun than traditional methods," said Joe Taylor, president and CEO of the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The social media aspect is very important."
Dubuque is the other Iowa city in the contest. Davenport and Dubuque plan to campaign together to take the top spots.
Despite stiff competition, Davenport's riverfront is already winning over visitor Seiberling.
"It's certainly a beautiful place," he concluded. "The diversity of it all is pretty spectacular."
