An 82-year-old Quad City man got the ride of his life. He got to check something big off his bucket list.

Tom Sisson has spent his life living it to the fullest.  Growing up, he was very active in sports.

"He used to drive his bicycle back and forth, back and forth. He was just a freak on that bicycle," said Tom's brother, Don Sisson.

However, age has slowed Tom down a bit. Now, instead of using a bike to get around, Tom uses a wheelchair.  Tom has always wanted to scull a boat, but never had the chance.

"It was a very elite, wealthy sport," said Tom.

Tom mentioned it to his physical therapists at Hope Creek, and they decided to make it happen. It's part of Hope Creek's New Chapters program, which encourages employees to listen to residents hopes and dreams then try to make them a reality.

Tom got to set out on the mighty Mississippi with his family watching on land.

"Tom's got a mind of his own. Whatever he wants to do, he'll do it," said Don.

Even though the ride didn't last long, Tom enjoyed every minute of it and it was a ride he will never forget.

"It's everything I thought it would be," said Tom.  "I don't think I'll ever be able to do it again, but I'm just glad that I had the opportunity to do it."
