For more than two decades, Dan Fisher put his dream on hold.

Fisher, a retired Air Force veteran, yearned to remodel a home and open a bed and breakfast. After living a nomadic life with the military, Fisher, a Savanna, Illinois native, planned to settle near home. In 2007, Fisher and his wife were visiting from Texas when they drove passed an old Victorian home near downtown Clinton.

"When we drove by the house and noticed it was for sale, we kind of joked about buying it at the time," Fisher said with a smile.

After returning back to Texas, Fisher began researching.

"I checked out the real estate site that had the listing; the price at the time was unbeatable," said Fisher.

He and his wife purchased the home in 2007 and planned to open The Fisher House Bed & Breakfast.

"It was a lot of work," Fisher said, laughing while glancing around the house. "We basically went room by room and tore it apart and put it back together."

Seven years later, the nearly 5,000-square-foot home had been transformed into a historic, yet modern bed and breakfast.

The Fisher House Bed & Breakfast offers free WiFi, cable TV, complimentary breakfast and private bathrooms for each bedroom.

When visitors walk through the front door to check in, will see their name displayed on a chalk board welcoming them. On the second floor, the four guest bedrooms each have a theme, honoring the four original homeowners.

"We wanted to honor the history of the house," Fisher said as he conducted a tour of the second floor bedrooms.

It took more than two decades for Dan Fisher to tackle his dream, but his time has come.

The Fisher House Bed & Breakfast will host a ribbon cutting on Friday, September 19.
