Enrollment is booming at a Quad City area college, despite declining high school graduation rates. Monmouth College is celebrating its largest freshman class in history.
Monmouth College has its biggest freshmen this year, with close to 400 students.
“The number of students at Monmouth is up as we should say in this down market,” said Tim Keefauver, Vice President for enrollment management at the college.
Keefauver says their success has come from looking for students outside the Quad City area. The other draw is the college’s new Science and Business Center that opened up to students this year. The college has been able to enhance science and business programs because of the building.
“They have lots of new toys, lots of new labs,” said Keefauver.
The new center gives prospective students more opportunities to choose from.
“It’s a lot of people to meet and get to know and work with, it’s kind of really exciting,” said freshman, Natalie Curtis.
Work on the new Science and Business Center continues as the college has added a green house and plan to finish a planetarium.
