In a close vote, people living in the Bettendorf Community School District voted down a property tax increase during a special election Tuesday, September 9, 2014.
Fifty-one percent (708) of the voters who cast ballots in the election voted no on the PERL tax or Public Education and Recreation Levy. Forty-nine percent (675) voted in favor of the tax.
The tax would have paid for improvements to the tennis courts, playgrounds and track and field facilities in Bettendorf.
The average homeowner would have paid about $12 more every year.
