One person was reportedly injured in a shooting incident at the Jackson County, Iowa Courthouse.

The shooting was reported around 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the courthouse, at 201 West Platt Street in Maquoketa.

Employees at nearby businesses confirmed police and ambulances were on the scene.

Schools there were placed on a precautionary lockdown, during which exterior doors were locked and children kept indoors, for about 20 minutes.

In a report on their Facebook page, the Maquoketa Sentinel-Press initially reported one injury and that the suspect was detained.  They later posted they had unconfirmed information indicating the shooter was possibly dead.

The county’s board of supervisors was meeting at the time the alleged shooting occurred.   The incident involved a citizen attending the board meeting to discuss a property tax issue, and a member of the board, according to radio station KMAQ.

County Supervisor Larry “Buck” Koos was injured, and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, a correspondent for the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald said.

The courthouse was closed after the incident.
