Survivors of domestic violence will have another place to turn for limited legal advice in the Quad Cities and it's only a computer away.

It's called a Virtual Legal Clinic, a volunteer network of attorneys available by Skype to give basic legal options to women in crisis.

"What are my rights, what are my children's rights, after all they've been told is, you have no legal rights", said Vickie Smith, with the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The cost is free, the program launched in 2011 by Lt. Governor Sheila Simon's office and the ICADV.

"So often folks of limited income have no availability for those kind of basic questions", said Lt. Gov. Simon, who was in Moline for the Quad City launch on Friday.

"These Skype connections helps them ask those questions". she said. "Not by text or email".

Lawyers from around the state, particularly Chicago and Springfield donate their time to make the program work.

Anyone with questions about how to participate should call Family Resources in Moline.
