The 2014 boating season is starting to wrap  up and officers on the water say it was an up and down year.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, there have been 27 boat accidents statewide so far. Of those, there were five deaths.

Three of those deaths were in the Quad City area. Two people were killed in June when a boat capsized in Clinton County.

Another person was killed in Princeton in April when a canoe capsized.

DNR Officers say the number of accidents this year is a fairly high number since there weren't a lot of boaters on the water this season due to flooding on area rivers.

However, they say "Boating While Intoxicated" (BWI) arrests are down. There have been 31 of those arrests so far in 2014 compared to 56 in 2013.
