Geneseo lifts boil order issued after water main break

A water main break near the Moose Lodge resulted in a boil order for parts of Geneseo, Illinois.

A water main break near the Moose Lodge resulted in a boil order that lasted two days for parts of Geneseo, Illinois.

Repairs were underway on the 12-inch main after it broke Tuesday, August 26, 2014 on South State Street.

Geneseo officials issued a boil order for some areas of their city as a result of the break.  Areas included in the boil order were all residents south of Chestnut Street from Oakwood Avenue south to Interstate 80, including Walmart, Culvers and surrounding businesses.

All of Richmond Hill, Richmond Hill West, Oakwood Place and Hillcrest subdivisions were also included in the boil order.

Repairs were completed and water service was restored Wednesday morning, August 27, but the boil order remained in effect until it was lifted Thursday morning, August 28, according to Public Works Director Klint Rice.

The boil order did not include any schools.
