A Bettendorf man spent a night in jail after a four-hour standoff with police.

Police said 68-year-old William Kill refused to surrender to officers when they were called to a disturbance at Kill’s home just after 8 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014.

After about four hours, Kill allegedly came out of his home and told police to shoot him.  When he allegedly walked away from officers and reached for his pant pocket, Kill was “subdued using less-lethal means,” according to a police report of the incident.

Kill was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse with a weapon and misdemeanor interference with official acts.

Jail records show Kill spent eight hours and 45 minutes in the Scott County Jail, and that he was released on his own recognizance.
