The history of cultural heritage in the Quad Cities is being celebrating through music this weekend.

The Polyrhythms Jazz & Heritage Festival took place Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 at Martin Luther King Park in Rock Island.

The free event is model after the "annual culturally rich New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival," according to a press release.

"Polyrhythms Jazz & Heritage Festival celebrates the indigenous music and culture of people who helped build the Quad Cities with their blood, sweat and tears, so the music encompasses many styles associated with the area: blues, R&B, gospel music, Latin, folk music, rock, rap, country music and everything in between; and of course there is lots of jazz, both contemporary and traditional."

The festival continues on Sunday, August 24th, 2014 in the Redstone Room at the River Music Experience in downtown Davenport. It goes from 3pm-8pm and is open to the public.
