Parts of the Chicago area are under water Friday morning, August 22, as overnight thunderstorms unleashed torrential rain. Hardest hit were the south and west sides of the city. WGN-TV reported that 7.5 inches of rain fell in the suburb of Countryside. Sections of the Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Stevenson Expressways were completely shut down at the same time this morning.

Residents were urged to use the trains to get to destinations. However, for a time the CTA had service interrupted on the "Blue" line due to high water. Click here for more from the WGN-TV Weather Center.
