In the name of safety, traffic flow changes have been made at Reagan Middle School/Madison Elementary in Dixon.
The 600 block of Division has been made into a one-way heading east and diagonal parking spots were placed.
A new stop sign was also placed on Division Street for eastbound traffic at the school’s exit. White arrows were installed on the pavement on the road surrounding the school to help guide parents.
“With the increased number of students attending the school this year, every effort has been made to maximize safety for the students,” said Dixon Police Chief Danny Langloss.
The student population has jumped from 800 to nearly 1100.
Langloss said four officers will be on site to help with traffic as students arrive to and leave the school. There will also be two crossing guards. Also, bus traffic has been moved away from the regular traffic flow.
“We realize this is new for everyone, and we want to be there to help,” said Langloss.
He asked parents to allow plenty of time for dropping-off and picking-up their kids since there is typically more traffic the first few days of school.
Where you can drop off your child:
- 7th and 8th graders – Division Street in the diagonal parking area. Parents can enter the school’s main entrance and drop off their child at the small parking lot playground area on the school’s west side.
- 4th, 5th, 6th graders- The one-way road entering the school near the basketball courts. This is the area where the buses parked last year.
If you drop off your child on the road that travels around the school, you must follow the white arrows on the roadway and turn down the back lane of the teacher’s parking lot. No cars will be allowed to drive past the buses.
