A man died in the hospital days after being stabbed in the front yard of a Galesburg home. Police continue searching for the suspect and have amended his arrest warrant.

Witnesses told police Wednesday evening, August 13, 2014 that a man, later identified as 49-year-old Melvin Buckner, had been stabbed in a front yard in the 500 block of West Brooks Street. Buckner was pronounced dead Sunday evening, August 17, after being hospitalized for his stab wounds, according to a statement from the Executive Secretary of the City of Galesburg.

An arrest warrant was issued for 29-year-old Christopher L. Croom in connection with the stabbing, according to the statement. Croom is wanted for first degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. He was originally wanted for attempted murder and aggravated battery.
