Dozens march through Rock Island for justice for Michael Brown

Dozens of people marched from the Martin Luther King Jr. Park to Schweibert Park in Rock Island for the “QC Justice for Mike Brown Rally,” Monday, August 18, 2014.

Brown is an unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed by a white police officer on August 9, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri.

“I think what happened was a terrible thing,” said marcher Damon Taylor, “For one, just being gunned down without him having no type of weapon on him at all.”

“I’m marching to offer some support to the folks in Missouri against what I think is a massive overreach by the police and I’m encouraging the federal government to step in to investigate this and resolve it as soon as possible,” added Bill Sherwood.

The unrest and riots that have followed Brown’s death in Ferguson have been especially difficult for Xavier Keen, the organizer of the rally, who grew up near Ferguson, Missouri.

“To see my home in the shambles it is, it’s hard, it’s heartbreaking,” he said.

There was a brief rally at Schweibert Park after the march, where several people spoke and held a moment of silence.

Why is the news wasting time on this? The guy is not a hero he is a bully that got shot. If you want to do a news story how about one about our service members or police who lost their lives in action, not this worthless puke.

    • Sequoya--I DONT NEED TO HIDE WHO I AM!

Ok so you say this young man who lost his life is worthless??! WOW…you must not have children or loved ones yourself..I cant understand how a another human can call another human who lost a life…WORTHLESS..I wonder about the person who made this comment….I wonder if people who know you…would think you would make a comment like this? Pure 100% COLD!

I can understand recognizing and mourning his death but the justice was determined by his actions.

No disrespect…… Don’ t know who Thomas Z. is to determine that JUSTICE was served. Great thing you are not the JUDGE JUROR or EXECTIONER. Minds all made up huh? Brown is GUILTY BEFORE even having due process…No one knows anything until the INVESTIGATION is OVER!!!

When he robbed the store and assaulted the store owner and then fought the cop, he at that point determined his fate.

Ok well you have an open and shut case then correct?

Like I said GREAT you are not a JUDGE and won’t be in the jury pool. Browns deserves the same due process as any other. I saw the tape like everybody else….ok so cause of what was on the tape.. it means open and shut right? Brown GUILTY?! That’s what i’m getting from your opinions. I hope you are not in any law enforcement….a person is guilty in your eyes before being tried Thomas?? come on man…..

Why is it cops are always assumed guilty to some people? Right now more people are assuming the cop is in the wrong than they are Brown.

  • SUPPORT YOUR POLICE

OFFICER WILSON FACED OFF WITH A BIG BAD THUG AND DEFENDED HIMSELF,NOTHING MORE TO IT,WE SUPPORT HIM AND LAW ENFORCEMENT. WE REALLY NEED TO COME TOGETHER FOR THESE POLICE. THE HATE AGAINST THEM IS NOW GOING TO GROW ALL BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOB. PROTECT AND SERVE!!!!!!
