Thomson Prison is back in the news this week.

Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D - Illinois) is meeting the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D - Illinois) at the facility on Monday afternoon, August 18th, 2014.

The purpose of the meeting is to "hold a community leaders update regarding the activation of Thomson Prison," according to a press released sent out by U.S. Sen. Durbin's team. Officials in the region say that managers have already been hired for the prison.

During a visit in September 2013, U.S. Sen. Durbin and Rep. Bustos were joined by the Assistant Director for Administration of the Federal Bureau of Prisons who said activating the prison will take about two years. They plan to hire 300 employees right away to help renovate the facility, then up to 800 more workers when it's ready.

News 8 will be at Monday's meeting and will tell you what happens on News 8 at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
