One person was under arrest after Clinton Police said he apparently set fire to the back of an apartment complex, forcing families from their homes.
Clinton firefighters were called to a minor door mat fire at a four-plex apartment building, in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue South, just after 10 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Firefighters quickly put out that fire, but then saw the back of the building was also on fire.
That fire caused extensive damage to the building.
All of the tenants escaped unhurt. No firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.
Police say they’ve arrested 57-year-old David M. Champion of Clinton. He was expected to face charges of felony first-degree arson.
