The location and way the fire developed may have something to do with a smoke detector not sounding when fire broke out in a home in Muscatine, Iowa.
The fire was reported just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at a home in the 1200 block of Nebraska Street.
One person was inside the home at the time of the fire, and she escaped without injury.
The fire was primarily on the outside on the back of the home, and had spread to the inside by the time firefighters arrived.
“Due to the location and development of the fire, the smoke detector in the house reportedly did not operate,” said a statement from Assistant Fire Chief Mike Hartman. “However, the speed at which this fire grew should serve as a sober reminder that smoke detectors are essential to occupant safety.”
No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
