Stabbing suspect arrested 12 hours after being released from jail

Twelve hours after he was released on bond, a man accused in a Burlington stabbing was arrested for allegedly threatening witnesses in that case.

Elmer Lee Donaldson, 46, allegedly argued with a woman and chased her before stabbing the woman’s boyfriend Sunday evening, August 10, 2014, according to Burlington, Iowa Police. Donaldson was arrested and charged with willful injury and going armed with intent.

Police said Donaldson spent less than three hours in jail before he posted bond and was released at 12:40 a.m. Monday, August 11.

Twelve hours later, police were called to the 800 block of South 9th Street in Burlington, where Donaldson was allegedly armed with a handgun and threatening witnesses over his previous arrest.

Police said they found Donaldson and arrested him in the 500 block of Vine Street. He was charged with misdemeanor tampering with a witness and felony going armed with intent.

Donaldson was held in the Des Moines County Jail.
