As contract negotiations ended Tuesday afternoon, no agreement had been reached between the Board of Education and the teachers’ union in Galesburg.

Both sides met with mediators for nearly 12 hours Monday, trying to hammer out a deal before classes begin on Thursday. Tuesday, negotiations were scheduled to end at 1 p.m., and shortly after that deadline, a Galesburg Education Association representative posted this message to the teachers’ website:

“No agreement has been reached. We do have a proposal from the Board we will be sharing with the membership. Meeting will be at 6:00 p.m.”

The GEA was holding an all-membership meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, August 12 at First Lutheran Church; that’s when teachers will either vote to ratify an agreement or assign strike duties.

Teachers are scheduled to report to school Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

Classes are supposed to begin the following day.
