The Galesburg Education Association will meet with the school board on Monday, August 11, 2014 to try to negotiate a deal.

Back on July 31, 2014, the district's teachers approved an 'intent to strike' vote. Two days earlier, the teachers held an informational picket outside Galesburg High School. Since then, not much has changed between them and the school board.

The teachers are looking for better salaries, security, and schedules for the upcoming year. The district faces a nearly $3 million deficit going into next year.

"We're asking to be treated fairly," GEA Spokeswoman Tami Qualls said after the July 31, 2014 meeting. "There are a number of things that they have not addressed with us, and we feel frustrated that we have to be in this position. We're still hoping that we can resolve this issue."

Both sides are meeting at 11 a.m. Monday at the Galesburg School Board office. If both sides don't come to an agreement by 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, the teacher's union says, they plan to go on strike. School for students is supposed to start Thursday, August 14, 2014.
