Davenport teen shooting victim was studying for his GED

Marcus Jones, 17, was shot and killed on August 10th, 2014 shortly after midnight.

It happened on the 500 block of East 13th Street in Davenport. Police said the victim was found lying face down in a yard suffering from a gunshot wound.

Friends said Marcus worked as a loader for UPS as he studied for his GED; aspiring to become a musician one day.

“None of us are sleeping,” said Quannie Banks, Marcus’ friend. “We all just want to know who did this.”

Friends said they will hold a vigil on the victim’s block on Monday around 9 p.m. They said they will sell memorial shirts along with the victim’s music and donate the money to help with funeral costs.

Police are investigating the incident and the events surrounding it.
