A local rapper spent the day handing out school supplies to students at an area learning center.

Sam Ball, who goes by Calliko, hosted an event at the Aldridge Early Learning Center in East Moline to give out school supplies. The event also featured free food, music, games and some surprise giveaways.

“It’s a lot of kids that grow up and don’t have everything that they need for school,” Calliko said. “So I remember being a little kid and having to go to Wharton Field House and get free school supplies because we couldn’t afford some. So I wanted to do something to give back to the community, especially my community.”

Hundreds of items were given out at the event.
