Two children when injured when the Channel Cat crashed on the Mississippi River.

Around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 one of the Channel Cat water taxis crashed into a structure when it was coming into the dock at the Bettendorf Isle of Capri, according to Lt. j.g. Michael Lewis with the Marine Safety Detachment of the Quad Cities.

There were nearly 40 passengers on board and two crew members when the taxi crashed, injuring two children who were taken to the hospital, Lewis said. A second Channel Cat came to the scene to pick up the other passengers.

For Saturday, the vessel that crashed was out of operation, although there was no damage to it. It was expected to resume operation Sunday.

Lewis said the Iowa Department of Natural Resources was on scene along with the Bettendorf Fire Department. The Coast Guard is heading the investigation.
