Bicyclist shot and killed in Burlington

A Burlington man died after he was shot several times on a street in Burlington, Iowa.

Someone reported the sound of shots fire at Aetna and South Gunnison streets just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014.

When police arrived, they found 50-year-old Eddie Martin, of Burlington, in the street.  Martin suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his lower torso, police said.  Martin was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City, where he later died.

Martin was on a bicycle when he was shot, according to the Burlington Hawk Eye.

Detectives later arrested Joshua James Royer, 38, in the 400 block of Barrett in Burlington.

Royer was charged with first-degree murder.  He was held without bond in the Des Moines County Jail.
