Suspect in rural Scott County shooting captured

The man police say was a suspect related to a shooting that left a man in a ditch in Scott County has been captured.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2014, police arrested 30-year-old Matthew King on a warrant for first degree robbery, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

Previous reports indicate that at about 5:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, Gabriel Almanza, 43, called 911 saying he had been shot in the legs. Police found Almanza in a roadside ditch in the 20,000 block of 210th Street in rural Scott County.

Police announced they were searching for King roughly one week before his arrest. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office received information that King may be in Peoria. He was found there at a relative’s home.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said King is in the custody of the Marshal’s Service. He will be returned to Scott County to answer to the charges.

As of Monday, July 28, Lt. Bryce Schmidt from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office said Almanza, the injured man, had surgery and was listed in fair condition.
