Tuesday, August 5, 2014 was the first day that elementary and junior high students returned to school in the Rock Island-Milan district. These students are the first in the Quad City area to return to school.
12 schools in the Rock Island-Milan school district returned Tuesday. Students at Rock Island High School returned on Monday. The district runs on a balanced calendar. That means they have a two month summer vacation, instead of a longer one. District reps say they have two weeks off in the fall, winter, and spring to off-set that.
Winter break for students in the Rock Island-Milan district is December 19, 2014. The last day for elementary students is scheduled to be June 3, 2015.
Students at United Township High School also started Tuesday. The majority of students in the Bettendorf Community School District start Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Students in Pleasant Valley, Davenport, and Moline start the week of August 18, 2014.
