Experts advise propane users to buy now while it’s cheap

Fuel analysts are advising propane users to buy their gas now while prices are still low.

Fuel analysts are advising propane users to buy their gas now while prices are still low.

Many rural families faced tough financial decisions last winter when propane gas prices spiked to $5 a gallon.

"We just had a tremendous demand like we've never seen before in the propane industry," said Tony Marchand, CEO of Gold Star FS, Inc., a propane distributor. "The inventories got so low, it was hard to get [the] product and when you have supply and demand like we did, you see a raise in prices."

"We're only about 10 cents a gallon higher than what we were last summer. So right now is not a bad time to buy," said Marchand.

Right now propane is about $1.40 to $1.70 a gallon.

Propane gas is primarily used in rural areas to dry out crops when they are harvested and to heat homes. Experts are advising propane users to take advantage of the low propane prices now and reserve their gas ahead of time.
