Centennial Bridge closed for the next 35-days

Centennial Bridge is now closed for repairs over the next 35-days, from August 3rd, 2014 until September 6, 2014.

Centennial Bridge is now closed for repairs over the next 35-days, from August 3rd, 2014 until September 6, 2014.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (I-DOT) said the bridge closure is necessary to replace expansion joints and transverse beams across the entire width of the bridge. They will make repairs to several of the piers and the deck, along with extensive steel repairs to the structure.

Alternate routes available for commuters are the I-280 bridge, the Arsenal Bridge, and the I-74 bridge.

I-DOT is advising people to leave plenty of extra time for their commute, as traffic backups on the alternate bridges are likely. They also suggest commuters try to avoid the peak traffic times, between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. as well as 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The bridge will still be open to foot traffic while it is under repair.
