The Assumption High School Baseball is moving on to the championship game.
It was the Knights versus the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks in the Class 3A semifinals. The teams competed in Des Moines at Principal Park Friday, August 1, 2014.
Through two innings, the teams were at 0-0, but that all changed in the bottom of the third when the Knights took the first run of the game.
The bottom of the third inning ended with Assumption trailing Waverly-Shell Rock 2-1. Assumption tied it up in the fourth and it stayed that way through the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Waverly-Shell Rock got another jump on Assumption, bringing the score up to 3-2.
In an amazing turn-around, the Knights scored six runs in the top of the seventh, giving Assumption an 8-3 lead.
Waverly-Shell Rock scored two more runs by the end, but Assumption prevailed with a final score of 8-5.
Assumption moves on to play for the State Championship on Saturday, August 2nd at 6 p.m.
