Members of the Quad Cities community got together Wednesday for the kick off luncheon for the 11th Annual NAMI walk. NAMI, which stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness, is raising money from now through the actual event in September. All the proceeds will go toward helping people and families impacted by mental illness.

"Mental illness is really a devastating type of illness when it occurs," says Michael Freda, President of NAMI of the Greater Mississippi Valley. "It not only affects the person with the illness, but it also affects all of the family and becomes a very difficult thing to understand and very difficult to deal with."

The goal is to raise $100,000. This year's walk will take place September 13th at Centennial Park.
