Muscatine residents report ‘suspicious’ man twice within three hours

An armed Muscatine man was approached by police twice within a matter of hours before being taken in for evaluation.

Police charged a man with trespassing and disorderly conduct, only to receive another complaint about him hours later.

Reports were coming in to the Muscatine Police Department around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014 about gun shots being fired and a suspicious person with a firearm, according to Lieutenant Jeff Jirak.

Police responded to the reports in the 1300 block of Washington Street and later found an armed man, 29-year-old Joshua Scott Lewis in the 1300 block of Isett Avenue, Jirak said.

According to the Muscatine Police Department, Lewis was charged with two counts of trespassing and one count of disorderly conduct. He was released.

Hours later, just before noon, a report came in to the Muscatine Police about a suspicious person near the 400 block of Mulberry Avenue, Jirak said. Police said they found Lewis in that area and he was then taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
