An Oquawka man was hospitalized after the helicopter he was piloting crashed in a field just south of town.

The crash was reported in a field along Illinois Route 164 about a mile south of Oquawka around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, according to Henderson County Sheriff Steven Haynes.

A 68-year-old man was injured in the crash, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in West Burlington, Iowa.  The nature and severity of his injuries, as well as his name, were not yet released.

The helicopter involved was a home-built, single-seat aircraft according to KBUR Radio.  The pilot was reportedly wearing a helmet.
