Michael Vanausdall, 60, pleaded not guilty in Rock Island County District Court on July 15, 2014, after he was formally charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and felony reckless discharge of a firearm.

Vanausdall was accused of firing a gun near a 15-year-old during a July 3 incident involving two dogs owned by Vanausdall’s neighbors. One of the dogs was shot and killed during the incident. The teen and the other dog were not hurt.
