Two adults, four children escape burning Walcott farmhouse

Six people were able to escape their Walcott, Iowa farmhouse when it caught fire.

According to Second Assistant Chief Joe Hahn with the Walcott Fire Department, the fire broke out on 47th Avenue shortly after midnight Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

Crews arrived to see flames coming from the living room, Hahn said. It only took firefighters about 10 minutes to get the fire under control, but the home sustained damage to the living room contents and smoke damage throughout the house.

Two adults and four children safely escaped the home, and they were the ones who reported the fire.

Hahn said the fire department’s quick response time helped to save the home. The cause is unknown.
