More than three months after her body was found, an official death certificate – listing the cause and manner of her death – was issued for Carrie Olson of Davenport, Iowa.
Olson, 29, was last seen at a gas station in Rock Island, Illinois in late December 2013. Her body was found Saturday, April 5, 2014, on land in rural Dakota County, Minnesota.
A spokesperson for the Hennepin County, Minnesota Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday, July 23, 2014 that Olson’s death certificate now lists the manner of her death as “homicide,” and the cause as “homicide by unspecified means.”
An autopsy had been completed by April 9, but other tests were being conducted to determine and confirm the cause and manner of her death. The spokesperson said details would not be released concerning what tests were conducted, and the length of time that passed between the time Olson's body was found and the time her death certificate was issued.
Authorities previously said the time and date of her death would be officially listed as the date and time when her body was found, April 5, 2014 at 5:05 p.m.
The details of her death certificate were made public five days after Tim McVay, whom Olson knew, was arrested in connection with her death. McVay was formally charged with first-degree murder and with concealment of a homicidal death. He was held in the Rock Island County Jail in lieu of $1.5-million bond.
