Several leaders in the Quad Cities met up to discuss climate change issues as flooding on the Mississippi River continues to disrupt Modern Woodmen Park.
On Saturday morning, July 19, 2014 at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, QC River Bandits owner Dave Heller met with Illinois State Senator Mike Jacobs, Exelon Corporation, owner of QC River Bandits Baseball Club William Stoermer, and others to discuss climate change issues.
The event follows President Obama’s action on climate change, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rules to regulate carbon dioxide.
Previous reports indicate that in addition to reducing carbon emissions, they proposed to reduce pollutants that contribute to smog. The same pollutants that make people sick.
“The fact is that this is a federal matter,” said Senator Jacobs. “We need federal help to take a look at this whole area, the whole region, the Midwest, and especially the Mississippi River and see how climate change is going to impact us.”
According to Act on Climate, Senator Jacobs planned to meet with community leaders at Western Illinois University to discuss climate change on Monday, July 21, 2014.
