Shoppers took matters into their own hands after they spotted two small children in a vehicle as temperatures hovered above 90 degrees.

Gabriel Del Valley said he stepped out of his shop in Katy, Texas, to investigate when he heard the sound of commotion and crying children in a parking lot Monday, July 14, 2014.

Del Valley said one guy used a hammer to smash open the windows of a locked Jeep that had two kids inside according to KHOU-TV.   Del Valley captured video of the incident on his cell phone.

Their mother reportedly said she left the kids in the car so she could get a haircut.

KHOU reported the mother admitted making a terrible mistake, and that the children did not appear to be hurt.  No one called police.
