Wilton Community Schools will consider the number of students it has in each of its first grade classes next year. The school board meets on Monday, July 14, 2014.

The school district will likely have classes of 30 and 31 students for each of its first grade classes in 2014-2015. The average class size in Iowa is just 20. Parents would like the district to hire another teacher for next year. They're afraid the quality of their child's education will drop with 30 students per class.

"There comes a point where our children's education, the risk of jeopardizing our future becomes more important than any of budget issues," parent Sara Shirk said on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.

Superintendent Joe Burnett says the district will hire another first grade teacher if they get to 65 students. Monday's school board meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Wilton High School.
