Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba will meet with his new immigration and humanitarian team on Monday, July 14, 2014 to try and forward with a plan to help detained children.

On July 8, 2014, Gluba said he wanted the Quad Cities to house immigrant children that have been held over the U.S.-Mexican border. Since then, Gluba has put together a team from area hospitals, charities, and churches to look into the problem. That group will meet again on Monday. Since July 8, residents have weighed in on the issue.

“I’m more for it because in hind sight, it’s a great idea for the city of Davenport to do this,” resident Josh Franzen said on Monday.

On Friday, July 11, 2014, Gluba said that no city tax dollars will be used to try bringing these immigrants in. Monday’s meeting starts at 4 p.m. at the Davenport Public Library downtown. It’s expected to go until 6 p.m.
