A local illustrator was featured at the Quad Cities Planet Comic and Arts Convention this year.

The 5th annual event took place at the Holiday Inn in Rock Island on Sunday, July 13th, 2014.

It included more than 40 tables full of comics, collectibles, memorabilia.

The convention also featured a workshop run by Davenport Artist, Dominic Velando, who teaches kids how to make their own comic books.

"You put two pictures together and then you fill in what happens in between," he describes. "You create a narrative, so it's your imagination that makes it happen. Unlike a movie where they give you every single panel of the comic, this really lets you fill in the adventure part of it."

Velando says he's been teaching kids how to make their own comics for the last 10 years.
