Fire forces family from home in Calamus

An early-morning fire heavily damaged a house in Calamus, Iowa.

An early-morning fire heavily damaged a house near Calamus, Iowa.

Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 2200 block of 160th Avenue around 7 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014.

At least four departments sent firefighters to help battle the blaze.  Firefighters on the scene said the house would probably be declared a total loss.

Two adults and one older child reportedly live in the home.  Only one person was home at the time, but they were able to get out safely. The family is getting help from the American Red Cross.  A family member said a pet cat may not have survived the fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
