A Waterloo man was charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in a road in Linn County, Iowa.
The body of 29-year-old Crystal Gaffney was found on gravel-covered Linn-Buchanan Avenue at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She had multiple, unspecified injuries. The next day, the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide from blunt force trauma.
A brief Amber Alert was issued in Black Hawk County for Gaffney’s three children, who were later found in Waterloo.
Shaun Hogan, 36, was sought in connection with the missing children and for questioning concerning Gaffney’s death. Hogan is reportedly the father of Gaffney’s youngest child.
Online court records showed Hogan was granted a temporary order of protection after he filed a petition June 30, 2014 for “relief from domestic abuse,” for which they had a court hearing set for July 10 in Black Hawk County.
Hogan was arrested by Waterloo Police on Thursday, July 10. He was held without bond in the Linn County Jail.
